I have to admit that I never thought about sea glass before a friend introduced me to it not long ago. One of my first thoughts was how many times I’d traveled to the Caribbean and never thought to look down! I can only now imagine how many wonderful pieces of glass I overlooked. No more!
My friend and I have been able to a find a few good spots to find glass near our homes and go glassing whenever we can. When we first started collecting sea glass we didn’t really have any plan. We enjoyed spending the time together and we both enjoy being on the beach, so it was a great way to spend an afternoon. It wasn’t until a friend showed my friend a simple piece of jewelry made with sea glass that we started making jewelry.
Sea glass jewelry is fairly easy to create. Some pieces of glass will, or should be drilled in order to make a piece of jewelry. Drilling takes several things, a Dremel type drill set up with a press, plenty of new drill bits and a lot of patience. Glass breaks easily. You need to take it slow when drilling. It take a bit of manual dexterity to be able to neatly wrap the wire to make a nicely finished piece. There are tutorials online to show you how to wire glass. Once you learn how you can let your own creativity take over and create your own wraps. You will also want to choose the perfect bead or charm embellishments to enhance your piece.
With a bit of time and patience you too can create beautiful seaglass jewelry.
